Activated Carbon derived from coconut shells is highly sustainable and has been treated with oxygen to make it porous, and has also been broken up into granules to further increase the surface area for chemical bondage to occur.

The water passes through the carbon, allowing the organic materials and chlorine to effectively bond with the carbon molecules, thus removing these from the water.

Activated carbon removes 95% or more of chlorine, as well as at least 81 other chemicals and organic compounds.
